Sharing skills in a spirit of trust and goodwill has built a diverse group of woman into a community. As members interact, exchanges around tasks blossom into friendship and support, and group activities become an increasing part of our life:

Inter-Actions include:

Affinity Groups
These groups usually grow out of the networking part of our monthly potlucks. They operate outside of the credit system but within the community.  A member organizes a group to join her for exploring an issue or just having fun.

Barn Raisings - Group Trading
Members often work together in 'Group Trading', joining in "barn raisings" to help individuals with projects such as moving, putting up shelves, even making a wedding.

Potluck Gatherings
Every month we come together at a member's home for a potluck supper and meeting. These treasured Sunday evenings are a time for networking, personal views, needs and exchanges, as well as discussions of Womanshare business.

Workshops
There are workshops, by and for member, such as writing a living will, how to use power tools, and self-marketing.

This extended family and community sense makes the organization work.  Individuals, particularly women, in a city such as New York can become extremely isolated.  For years, small towns and rural areas have combated isolation through shared work such as barn raisings, quilting bees, craft clubs, and food cooperatives.  Such activities have helped people obtain goods that would not be available without group involvement and cooperation.  Urban areas increasingly require the same kind of community cooperation in order to improve the quality of people's lives.
