MEMBERSHIP COMMITMENT
1.

As a cooperative, Womanshare requires its members to take an active part in the ongoing work of shaping Womanshare. Participating in committees, task groups and administrative work strengthens ties and develops our skills in building community.

Members agree to contribute to Womanshare in these ways:

  • Payment of "time dues": Each member performs six hours of Womanshare work per year.*

  • Agreement to honor Womanshare principles.

  • Payment of membership dues. Regular yearly rate is $50.

  • Submission of  "Skills List" for distribution to General Membership.

  • Attendance at Monthly Potluck Meetings at least two times a year.

    * If a member needs to leave she must provide thirty day notice for fulfillment of "time dues". (Upon cancellation, a member's credits can be kept in her account for up to 6 months, or she can request to suspend her membership for 6 months.

2. Womanshare members agree to take responsibility for all transactions in which they are involved.
3. Womanshare credits can never be exchanged for cash.
4. Accountability for taxes is the responsibility of those involved.  Womanshare's time credit exchanges are part of the non-market economy - an extension of what families and neighbors have always done and some people believe that the tax code is not meant to apply to these transactions.  However it is strongly recommended that each member educate themselves about the tax implication of service exchanges.  The IRS's position on the tax liability of service exchange systems like Womanshare has not been tested.  It is also recommended that provider and recipient of an exchange fill out their report together so that they agree on the character of the transaction.
5. There is never an obligation for a member to provide a service. However, members are requested to attempt a quarterly minimum of 6 hours exchange (either earned or spent).
6. A member may know the balance and credit transactions of any other member.
